Case Study: the airplane, part I.

Week 4: Feb.2, 4, 6

Overview, History of Science and Technology, part II.

Week 5: Feb. 9, 11, 13

Invention of the Airplane, part II. Drafts and presentations due Friday.

Week 6: Feb. 16, 18, 20

Telephone History, part I: Bell. Group projects assigned. Look at v.1 of Bell's notebook.

Week 7: Feb. 23, 25, 27

Introduction to electricity, and bios of Franklin and Faraday. Class work on notebooks.

Week 8: Mar. 2, 4, 6

Continued work on v.2 of Bell's notebook. A cognitive study of Bell and Gray.

Week 9: Mar.9, 11, 13

Group v.2 notebook projects due. Interlude: Contemporary inventions.

SPRING BREAK

Week 10: Mar. 23, 25, 27

Brief bios in the history of science. Lab work on Friday. Assign individual projects.

Week 11: Mar. 30; Apr. 1, 3

Case Study: Darwin and Natural Selection Also: the metaphor of Natural Selection in the history of ideas Lab work on Friday.

Week 12: Apr. 6, 8, 10

Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Creativity Lab on Friday.

Week 13: Apr. 13, 15, 17

Random cool things week. And Edison if we haven't done him yet! Lab on Friday.

Week 14: Apr. 20, 22, 24

Loose ends, and the march of progress revisited. Lab on Friday. Individual papers due.

Week 15: Apr 27, 29; May 1

Presentations of group projects. Possible other things. Indiv. papers graded and returned.

Final Exam Period

This is the final deadline for group project writeups, any makeup mini-assignments, and any rewrites of your individual paper.
