Ideas and Details

The field trip encourages you to take advantage of some of the area museums with science & technology exhibits, such as the National Air & Space Museum, which has sites both on the National Mall and near Dulles Airport, or the Marian Koshland Science Museum, part of the National Academies. It currently has an exhibit on Infectious Disease!

Alas, the National Museum of American History is closed for renovation until Fall 2008. It's worth a brief look at some exhibit websites though:

In early 2008, you could see Kermit the Frog and 149 other objects from this museum at the Air & Space Museum, Gallery 211. Alas, no more.

You may think of other options. For example, you might hear about a public talk that's related to our class theme: the impact of science & technology, or key topics like: design, computers, germs & disease, etc. You might want to email me ahead of time to check ideas.

Also, why not go with one or more other classmates? Not only does it make the event more social, but you will get more out of it by talking about things, rather than just walking from point to point nodding your head.

You should provide a two-page writeup. You may include photos, but you should have at least one-and-a-half pages of 12-point doublespaced text before any photos.

What if I don't go?

You miss the chance to replace low grades or earn extra credit. You miss an excuse to go see some wonderful stuff. Really, is it so bad to go spend a day on the National Mall seeing exhibits? The 2-page writeup isn't that bad. However, if you choose not to do this, you don't lose any credit.

When is it due?

The writeup should be turned in by Week 8. After that, the late penalty applies.
